Anonymous is a neo-primitive religious cult owing its origins to underground image boards. Anonymous worships the Internet as a deity. Amongst the primary rituals of the cult are actions directed at specific targets meant to generate revulsion and drama from those targets. These actions are done for the "lulz" - a form of hypnotic laughter that can be likened to Charismatic Christians speaking in tongues. Any entity Anonymous imagines threatens the Internet deity is absorbed into its belief system as a demon. Their supreme demons include the RIAA, Virgin Media, Viacom and The Church of Scientology. They believe that by appearing in public in the guise of Guy Fawkes (and occasionally other disguises) and ridiculing their demons they can ward off and hopefully banish them and thereby protect and earn favor from the Internet deity.
